About

The British Cinema and Television SIG operates within the British Association of Film and Television Studies (BAFTSS) as a community of researchers, teachers, and practitioners, working on British cinema and television. We aim to share, develop, and support scholarship, teaching, and knowledge exchange activities in British cinema and television through online and in-person events, publications, networks and research projects.

This SIG aims to provide a collegial forum for scholarly interests in British cinema and television cultures, both domestically as well as in their broader transnational and global contexts (of evident additional significance post-Brexit). Fully embracing historical approaches as well as work focussing on contemporary agendas and future directions for British television and film, the SIG operates within an expansive range of critical, theoretical, methodological and pedagogic parameters and aims to foster work that significantly advances the field of study.

The group currently has over 100 members, representing numerous UK Higher Education institutions and several overseas, as well as non-HEI members with academic interests in the subject area. The SiG is particularly keen to support PGR and ECR members.

The SIG is convened by David Forrest, James Leggott, Steven Roberts, and Melanie Williams. Please get in touch with us if you’d like to propose an initiative, share details of an event, or for any other SIG queries.

If you would like to join the British Cinema and Television SiG and you are a member of BAFTSS please contact Dr Liz Watkins.
